Celebrating 50 Years! 1969-2019

Our Story….

After looking around the Hayward area for a couple of years, Cal and Adeline Horman decided to purchase Trails End Resort in April, 1969 and move “up north” from LaCrosse, WI. There were only 5 lakefront cottages, however, the cottages had the added bonus of indoor plumbing and the resort had acreage, since Cal had his sites on building a campground. And so the story begins!

Through the years, Cal & Adeline built the original A-frame lodge, housing a seasonal bar and game room. Little by little they carved the woods to put in campsites, and built a modern-day shower house. All of this activity going on while they raised their three children; Michael, Chrissy and Jennifer. At year fifteen, Michael brought home a Michele. Michael and Michele bought into the business in 1985. For the next 22 years, Mike and Michele ran the resort, bought property on both sides, built two additional rental homes and expanded the campground with updated facilities. This activity all going on while Michele and Mike raised their two children, Jeremy and Hannah.

In 2007, Michele became the owner of Trails End Resort, with Cal and Adeline maintaining ownership of two rental units. In the fall of 2008, Michele decided to expand the bar and add a restaurant, making it a year round building. Five additions later, we now have what you see as a result of the original “bump out”. Now Jeremy is helping his mom run the resort. We added a 4th generation Horman in March of 2018, baby Calvin Michael Horman and the family grew by one more in September, 2018 as we welcomed Vanny, Jeremy’s wife, to the family. She is a familiar face around the resort as well as the community. We are excited to start the next 50 years and are humbled by the support we have received from our wonderful guests over the past 5 decade!
